I brought along all our muslin curtains I had made when we got married 50 years ago and I cut them up to paint on. I gesso the cloth first and it becomes sort of stiff. Then I paint on it with acrylic paints and sew grommets into the corners so the piece can be nailed up.

This is the first painting I made when I moved to Riverwoods. It shows the ladies unleashed out under the stars after an early snow and a late night out. These two paintings are unframed. I like to handle them without frames around them—-like a fragment or a moment from another time.
